Arriving by bike at the Ritter’Hoft: locked garage, water point and a base in Northern Alsace

The Ritter’Hoft has a garage that locks, next to the hotel car park, where bikes spend the night under cover. Beside it, a water point lets you rinse off a bike that came back muddy, and an electrical socket lets you charge an e-bike battery. The hotel is in Morsbronn-les-Bains, inside the Northern Vosges Regional Nature Park, 15 minutes from Haguenau: enough to ride for several days without changing accommodation every evening.

Where does the bike sleep?

This is the first question cyclists ask on the phone, and the answer fits in one sentence: in a garage that locks, next to the hotel car park. Bikes do not stay outside under a tarpaulin and do not have to come up to the rooms. The garage is also used for motorbikes, so it is sized for machines. Tell reception how many bikes you are bringing when you book, so the space can be planned.

Rinse, charge, ride on

A water point is available to rinse off a bike that came back muddy from the forest. An electrical socket lets you charge an e-bike battery overnight. These are two tiny details, and they are exactly the two that are most often missing when you arrive soaked at 6pm with 90 km in your legs.

Dinner without getting back on the road

The Ritter’Hoft restaurant serves lunch and dinner every day except Sunday evening. Chef Christophe Zenns cooks a market-led menu, with main courses between €15.20 and €29.00, net prices, service included. On Sundays service stops at 2.30pm. Breakfast is a buffet served every morning, at €15 per person per day. For a cyclist that means not going back out in the evening, and not hunting for an open bakery before setting off.

Sleeping: 24 air-conditioned rooms

All 24 rooms are modern and air-conditioned, with free Wi-Fi, a TV with Chromecast and a walk-in shower. Air conditioning matters more than it sounds in July and August, when an overheated room turns a recovery night into a sleepless one. Rates start at €79 for a single Essentiel, €97 for a double Confort and €107 for a double Supérieure, excluding tourist tax. Two ground-floor rooms are fitted for guests with reduced mobility, and sixteen rooms are served by the lift.

Where to ride from Morsbronn-les-Bains

The Alsace Verte Tourist Office lists 37 cycling and mountain-bike routes, from 6 to 80 km, filterable by starting town, distance and level. Morsbronn-les-Bains is one of the towns you can start from. Around it: the white villages of Hunspach and Seebach, the Maginot Line works, Fleckenstein castle, the fortified town of Wissembourg and, further out, the Cleebourg vineyard.
